Obituaries (April 15)

Marcia A. Brigham
Northern Christian Advocate, April 3, 1850
Miss Marcia A. Brigham, died at her father's residence, in Richford, N.Y. [Tioga Co.], Feb. 24, 1850, aged 19 years.  Possessed of an amiable disposition, she endeared herself to her acquaintances at home and abroad, and was cherished with choice fondness in the family circle.  She was religiously trained, and early became pious.  To add to her education, already well commenced, she entered Oneida Conference Seminary, where she rapidly advanced in knowledge, in Christian graces, and in the confidence and esteem of all her teachers and associates. She returned to her doting parents to remain with them, it has been ordered, only a few short weeks; but during this period her piety, her anxious concern for the salvation of her young friends, her character, in all respects, afford consoling evidence to her deeply afflicted relatives and friends that she rests now with the Savior. Her sickness was short, but terribly distressing, and attended with delirium; but suffering God's will, she now has her reward, we trust, with God in heaven.   Henry Hannister,  Cazenovia, March 24, 1850

Phebe E. Boyden
Northern Christian Advocate, April 3, 1850
Phebe E. Boyden, wife of Wm. Boyden, died in Cincinnatus [Cortland Co., NY], January 1, in the 30th year of her age.  When death came, she was ready saying, "I am not afraid to die.  I am going, going to rest with Jesus." So quietly did she breathe her last, that we were constrained to adopt the language of the poet thus:
"Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep:
From which none ever wakes to weep"
J. Soule  Cincinnatus, March 20, 1850

Lucy Chaffee
Northern Christian Advocate, April 3, 1850
Sister Lucy Chaffee, wife of deacon Albigeme Chafee, departed this life, after a lingering illness in the town of Palermo, Oswego Co., N.Y., January 17, aged 59 years.  As the clouds break away near the setting of the sun, after a stormy day, and the sun shines forth in all its loveliness, so with this dear sister.  She never manifested a high esteem of herself as a Christian, but an elevated and exalted regard for virtue and piety. Doubts and fears often troubled her during many years of a blameless, Christian life. But at the last closing up of her days, her evidence was clear, and her prospects bright; with a serene mind she smiled at the approach of death, and then passed away.    Ansel Griffith.  Gilbert's Mills, March 22, 1850
