Died: In this town [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 18th inst., Mrs. Marinda A. [Sackett], wife of Samuel Sackett, aged 19 years.
Died: In this town [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 17th inst., Mrs. Jane E. [Firman], wife of George Firman, aged 34 years.
Died: In Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], on the 16th inst., Mrs. Mary E. Miner, wife of S.W. Miner, aged 26 years.
Died: In North Stonington, Ct., on the 15th inst., Mr. Charles H. Wheeler, of Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], aged 26 years.
Died: In Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], on the 3d inst., of cancer in the stomach, Mr. Randolph King, in the 29th year of his age. The subject of this notice, made a public profession of faith in Christ, at an early age, and soon after was Baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist at Smithville; of which he continued for a number of years, a consistent and worthy member. And although he never possessed a strong constitution; yet he enjoyed comfortable health until within a little more than a year and a half since, when he was suddenly prostrated on a bed of sickness, and from that time to the time of his death he was a great sufferer. And yet fearful as his sufferings were, he bore them with much patience and Christian resignation. For the most part of the time his mind seemed unclouded, his faith in Jesus Christ as the Saviour of penitent sinners appeared unwavering' and his hope of heaven through the merits of Christ's death was as an anchor to his soul. He spoke freely of his approaching dissolution, and did not think it hard that he must die young, but was happy in the hope that he should soon enter upon that rest that remaineth for the people of God, and would say to friends at his bed side, "weep not for me" and in the confidence that all was well he peacefully closed his eyes in death. His funeral was attended by a large circle of friends at Smithville, on the 4th inst. Thus early has our brother passed away, in life respected, and in death lamented. He leaves a widowed mother, and two sisters, who with a large circle of other relatives deeply mourn his early death. Oh, why should death be linked with fear; / A single breath, a low drawn sigh; / Can break the ties that bind us here, / And waft the spirit to the sky. / Such was his end. A calm release, / No clingings to this mortal clod. / He closed his eyes, and stood in peace / Before a smiling God.

Married: In this town [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 21st inst. by Eld. A.B. Jones, Mr. Augustus Wordwell and Miss Adeline Jones, daughter of the officiating clergyman, all of this town.
Died: In this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY], on the 22d inst., Doct. Levi Farr, aged 72 years. In recording the death of so prominent a man as Doct. Farr, some more extended notice seems due from his contemporaries than that he has left the scene of his usefulness. Doct. Farr became a resident of this town in 1807. He at once entered upon the active duties of his profession. His services were required over a large section of country and amid its sparse and indigent population he became a prompt and ready medical adviser. His untiring devotion to his patrons of every grade, and his zeal in his professional duties gave him a well merited reputation which was second to none in this section. Nor was his professional counsels alone required. On all occasion where public or private weal was involved, the counsel and advice of Doct. Farr were eagerly sought and cheerfully given. In all the walks of usefulness that have been needed to convert a wilderness to the abode of wealth and civilization, whether in a physical, moral or a pecuniary point of view, Doct. Farr has filled a large space in the public mind and is gratefully remembered by his survivors. For the last twenty years he has been entirely blind, yet amid the gloom of darkness that has surrounded his pathway his cheerful spirit and general intelligence has made him an attractive and an instructive companion. In contemplating the character of Doct. Farr we see a man of no ordinary mould. In all the characteristics of a mental and moral nature we observe that harmonious blending which beautifies and adorns humanity. Nor did these in any degree forsake him in his declining age; but buoyed by that Hope which is an anchor to the soul, he has serenely passed from earth and left a bright halo in the remembrance of all who knew him. The bereavement of his widow is shared by our whole community and the kindest sympathies of all are largely extended to her.

Drowned: John Bowdern, of this place [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], an intemperate Irishman, aged about 50 years, was found drowned in the basin to the side-cut, on Thursday afternoon last. When last seen alive, he was under the influence of liquor, and doubtless stumbled accidentally into the water. Such was the substance of the verdict of the Coroner's jury. Chenango Union.
Chenango Telegraph, Norwich, NY, July 20, 1859
Drowned while intoxicated: John Bowdern, a well known dissipated shoemaker of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], was found drowned in the canal basin in this place on Thursday afternoon. About fifteen minutes before he was found dead, he left a house on the bank of the canal about eight rods from the spot where he was picked up, in a condition so intoxicated as to be unable to walk well. Coroner Day was called to hold an inquest, which he did on Friday, and after hearing the testimony of several witnesses, the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the above facts.
