The citizens of Oxford [Chenango Co., NY] were reminded of the uncertainty of life last week by a melancholy casualty.  Dr. George A. Sholes a young physician residing in Plymouth [Chenango Co., NY] and son-in-law of Mr. Wm. A. Harrington, of Oxford, on Wednesday morning of last week started on horse back from his father-in-law's residence to go for medical assistance for his wife, who was threatened with brain fever, at her father's house.  While crossing Navy Island his horse became frightened by a dog and threw him to the ground, dragging him by the halter until his head struck the post on the canal bridge dividing the wagon track from the foot path, fracturing his skull.  He remained unconscious until his death, which occurred of Friday morning.  His wife died on Thursday morning with the brain fever.  They were married last Christmas, and were soon intending to go to housekeeping. The funeral was attended on Sunday from the Presbyterian Chruch, by an immense concourse of sympathizing friends and acquaintances, prominent among whom were members of the medical profession, and a large representation of Good Templars, with which organization one or both of the deceased were connected, and which rendered solemn and deserved honors at their grave.
