BOWDISH: In Burrillville, R.I., Jan. 24th, of cancer, Mr. Lorenzo Bowdish, aged 62 years, formerly of McDonough, N.Y. [Chenango Co.].
BROWN: Suddenly at the residence of Stephen Robbins, in Smyrna [Chenango Co. NY], Feb. 8th, Mrs. Roxana L. Brown, of Beaver Meadow [Chenango Co. NY], widow of James R. Brown, aged 66 years. Deceased had been for many years a zealous and exemplary member of the Baptist church and enjoyed the esteem of the entire community in which she so long resided, and by whom her loss will be deeply felt.
We learn that Mrs. Roxana L. Brown, of Beaver Meadow was found dead in her bed at the residence of Stephen Robbins, in Smyrna, on the morning of the 8th ult. She had been on a short journey, visiting some friends, and was on her return home, stopping with the family of Mr. Robbins for the night, and appearing in her usual health upon retiring to rest. Deceased was the widow of the ate James R. Brown, of Beaver Meadow, and had been for many years a much-esteemed resident of that place. Her age was 66 years.
HAYES: In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY], on Friday evening, March 1st, Pamelia R. [Hayes] wife of Edward T. Hayes, aged 56 years and 10 months.
A heart-rending accident occurred in our village on Friday morning last, by which the wife of E.T. Hayes, esq. met a most shocking and painful death by burning. Mrs. Hayes has for the past four years been somewhat out of her mind, caused by softening of the brain. She has, however, been docile and harmless, and aside from the watch kept over her by the family, no restraint has been imposed, or was necessary. On the morning of the accident, she arose from her bed at about three o'clock, and called to her daughter-in-law, who occupied an adjoining room, both rooms being directly off the sitting room, to assist her in dressing, which she did, and, as the room was cold, opened the drafts to the stove, and then retired, leaving Mrs. Hayes in the sitting room. Nothing further was heard until about half past seven o'clock, when the family were aroused by cries of distress, and upon going into the sitting room, they found the clothing of Mrs. Hayes on fire, in fact mostly burnt off of her. Her son, Mr. Edward Hayes, used every exertion to extinguish the flames and to tear from her person what clothing yet remained, but before it could be accomplished, the poor victim was so horribly burned as to render her death certain. She lingered in great pain until half past ten o'clock in the evening, when she died.
Mr. Hayes was away from home at the time of the accident, having been to Ohio, and the sad intelligence reached him by dispatch at Hornellsville, as he was on his way home. It is supposed that the clothing of Mrs. Hayes caught from the stove while she was standing looking at some articles on the mantel piece, immediately back of the stove. In trying to extinguish the flames, her son had one of his hands very badly burned. Mrs. Hayes was fifty-six years of age and was a most estimable lady. The shocking manner of her death has caused a thrill of horror to run through the community and aroused the sympathies of our people for the family in their deep affliction.

Deaths
PADDOCK: At Ilion, N.Y. [Herkimer Co.] February 12th?, Mrs. Mehitable Paddock in the 88th year of her age. Mrs. Paddock as at one time a resident of Norwich [Chenango Co. NY].
BENEDICT: In Rochester [Monroe Co. NY], on Friday, March 1st, 1872, Oliver Mills Benedict, Esq. aged 61 years.
The deceased was born in the town of Sherburne [Chenango Co. NY], June 9th, 1811. In the year 1833, he was married to Cordelia Lincoln, and in 1836 removed to Utica [Oneida Co. NY] and entered the law office of the late Joshua A. Spencer. In 1846, he removed to Rochester where he entered into a law partnership with the late S.S. Bowne, formerly and afterwards of Otsego county. About the year 1851, Mr. Benedict entered into partnership with Gen. John Martindale, late Attorney-General of the state, which continued until a recent date. Mr. Benedict's first wife having died in 1868, he afterwards married Miss Wasson, of Albany. He was a brother of Joseph Benedict, Esq., of Utica and of Charles Benedict, of Sherburne. Mr. Benedict was a gentleman of great purity of character, from his youth and exemplary member of the Presbyterian Church and for fifteen years an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Rochester. He attained eminence in his profession as a counsellor and died possessing the highest esteem of the entire community where he lived.

Death
Hiram Parker, an old citizen of Coventry [Chenango Co. NY], died February 20th in the 71st year of his age. He was born in the town of Oxford, in 1801, was married in Guilford on the 2d of May 1824, to Louisa Cornell, and on the 3d of May in the same year moved to Coventry, on the farm on which he died.
News Item
Recently there were gathered at the house of Hannah Johnston in Afton [Chenango Co. NY], representatives of five successive generations. The persons, all females, representing the five generations were as follows: Mrs. Lydia Waters, aged 91; Mrs. Hannah Johnston, aged 73; Mrs. Mary Landers, aged 45; Mrs. Ella A. Hyde, aged 21, and Miss A. Norris, aged four weeks. Miss Norris has six grandparents, four females and two males, living with a circuit of two miles.

In Otego [Otsego Co. NY], Dec. 13, 1871, of apoplexy, Mrs. Betsey Brown, aged 78 years and 9 months. She has been a resident of Otego the past 60 years.
At Sidney Plains [Delaware Co. NY], Feb. 23d, Jeremiah King, aged 80 years.
Entered into Life, on the afternoon of February 26th, Clara [Thomas] youngest daughter of Edward and Sophronia Thomas, aged 12 years.
This is the record of the early ingathering of precious grain; of a noble promise disappointed, as men recount but in God's esteem accomplished and fulfilled. Through a long sickness of more than ordinary suffering, her eyes sealed in blindness from the sight of those who, during the long weeks, hung so lovingly over her, and which seemed a stroke added to enhance the painfulness of her trial; yet through all, to the last, no wish that it might be otherwise escaped her lips save once, when we all thought that she must certainly recover, and even then, only, as she said to the writer, "If God wills." From the first she seemed to have forseen her departure hence; but she repeated it not to the minor key of a lamentation, but as, to the last, to the jubilant major of gladness and peace. Her favorite prayer was that which the blessed Lord has taught; and in repeating it, as she has many times, she seemed to dwell upon the petition, "Thy will be done." And now God hath given to His beloved, sleep.
