BURNS: In Oneida [Madison Co. NY] Oct. 5 of consumption, Maggie [Burns] eldest daughter of John and Bridget Burns, aged 18 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Mourn not for Maggie, mother, / Though to your hearts so dear; / Think she is free from pain and care, / And never know a tear.
Oh! Father cheer the stricken ones / Of those now left alone; / Send angels near to guard them / and guide their spirits home.

HARRISON: In Georgetown [Madison Co. NY] Oct. 3, Luella [Harrison] wife of Geo. B. Harrison and youngest daughter of Jerome Norton, aged 23 years.
Again, we feel the mighty King of terror has visited our community and has choses, as He is wont to, a shining mark. Mrs. Harrison came among us about two years ago and in that short space of time her superior amiability and loveliness of character has won for her many warm friends, who deeply feel this mournful dispensation of providence. Her death has been made doubly sad from the fact that through her short and painful illness she has been deprived by sickness of a mother's thoughtful care; and although kind friends and a loving and devoted husband have been there to interpret every need or wish, her affectionate nature missed that tender mother's hand and cheerful voice. The afflicted friends have our heartfelt sympathies, and as a balm of consolation we would offer the thought that this fair flower has not been plucked to wither, but to live forever and ever in that better land, where the chills of winter never come. And as you are one by one called to pass through the dark valley, the smiles of the angel Luella will brighten the way and rob death of its sting.
The sun had gone out, / Our home was all dark, / The hearthstone was cold and drear, / When they bore her away / In that mystical bark, / That wife and that loved one so dear.
Cold surged the stream, / the waves lashed our feet; / And our hearts seemed to freeze with the spray, / As we saw the death angel / Toward Heaven retreat, / Bearing the soul of our loved one away.
Hark! a voice from yon Heaven / Just obscure from our view, / Where the feet of the risen one glide, / Softly whispers: "George, / Love, I will pledge you anew, / Our hearts death can never divide.
"I will ever by thy angel / To watch over and guide / Thy feet from the rough paths of slu, / At Heaven's gate I will meet thee, / Thy own trusting bride, / And welcome thee ever within.
"Farewell my dear parents / And sisters so found, / But it's not long divided we'll be; / The Lord was not willing / I should be with you long, / But soon you will all be with me."
H.C.P.
