BLACKMAN:  Mr. Frank Blackman received a telegram Wednesday morning informing him of the death of his only son [Francis Blackman] at Gilbertsville [Otsego Co. NY]. Remarkable Longevity

Many years ago, when all west of Hudson River was almost a trackless wilderness, Asa White and wife left his Vermont home and settled in Bainbridge [Chenango Co. NY].  He afterwards removed to Sherburne [Chenango Co. NY] where he resided until his death.  During his residence in Sherburne, he had seven children born unto him, all of whom are still living [in 1879] and whose ages are as follows:

Richmond White, 83; Mrs. Isabell White Merrills, 79; Dr. Devello White, 78; William White, 76; Mrs. Lavinia White Carrier, 73; Mrs. Eunice White Corbin, 69; Mrs. Dr. E.S. Lyman, 65

The aggregate ages of these seven living children, constituting all of Asa's progeny, it will be seen is five hundred and twenty-five years. All are in remarkable health for persons of such great age, and Uncle Richmond says if he has a pair of legs without rheumatism, he would be "just as young as he used to be."  All still reside in Sherburne except William who now resides in Coventry [Chenango Co. NY] and Mrs. Corbin in Bainbridge.  Dr. White is well-known as one of the most successful medical practitioners in this section of the state. The other sons are now farmers and all of the "children" are of the highest respectability and enjoy the confidence and esteem of all who know them. We doubt if a similar case of longevity in a family exists in this section foo the country.  May their circle long remain unbroken.  Chenango Telegraph.
