Vital Records, Oxford & Greene, NY, February 1867

 Oxford Times, February 6, 1867

Fatal Accident:  On Friday last, Jan. 25th, Mr. Norman Felt, residing near Earlville [Madison Co., NY], was drawing a load of straw, and running into a pitch hole in the road was thrown by the sudden jar from the load upon his horses, rolling down upon the whiffletrees.  The horses evidently soon kicked him off, under the sleigh, drawing the whole load over him.  He was so badly injured that he died the next morning about eight o'clock.  the accident happened about noon.  His injuries seemed to be in his neck and spine, his limbs being entirely paralyzed, and he was in the greatest pain the most of the time.  Probably the spinal cord was either severed, or so powerfully compressed as to cause the paralysis.  Hamilton Rep.
