In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], March 29th, Mrs. Mary Hoag, aged 54 years.

In Smyrna [Chenango Co., NY], March 9th, of measles and congestion of the lungs, Mr. Cyrenus M. Briggs, aged 30? years.

Smyrna:  The death of our highly esteemed and respected fellow townsman, Cyrenus M. Briggs, casts a gloom over our whole community.  Mr. Briggs was an excellent citizen, honest and upright in all his dealings, a kind and obliging neighbor, and a warm and genial companion.  He leaves a wife and three children, who sustain an irreparable loss.  Measles are quite prevalent in our town and village, and have been in many cases quite severe, resulting in two or three deaths.

At the residence of his father, Calvin Brooks, in this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], April 3d, of typhoid fever, Mr. Lyman E. Brooks, aged 24 years.

In Kaneville, Kane Co., Ill., March 8th, Mr. Pliny M. Phelps, formerly of New Berlin [Chenango Co., NY], of congestive fever, aged about 50 years.

In Smyrna [Chenango Co. NY], March 23d, Orissa L. [Bidwell], wife of A.T. Bidwell, aged 23years.

In Portsmouth, Ohio, Feb. 21st, John W. Spry, formerly of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], aged 45 years.

Wife Poisoning:  Alonzo Adams, of West Edmeston, Otsego County [NY], has been arrested on a charge of poisoning his wife.  Adams didn't love his own wife.  He did love some other man's wife.  Arsenic was found in the flour that the unloved Mrs. Adams made into bread.  Happily, Mrs. A. ate a great deal of bread and took more arsenic than was needed to kill her.  It simply had the effect to make her very sick.  Suspicions were aroused.  The flour was sent to Prof. Avery, of Hamilton College.  He found arsenic and Adams was arrested.

COLLINS:  In Smyrna [Chenango Co., NY], April 6th, Mrs. Anna Collins, mother of Isaac B. Collins of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], aged 93 years, 11 months and 19 days.

AYLWORTH:  In Oxford [Chenango Co., NY], April 4th, M. Frankie [Aylworth], daughter of Dr. B.H. and M.B. Aylworth, aged 17 years.

YEOMANS:  In Preston [Chenango Co., NY], April 5th, Polly [Yeomans], wife of the late Andrew Yeomans, aged 96 years.

CARRUTH, In Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], April 13th, Mrs. Kate E. [Carruth] wife of Dr. William S. Carruth, of Cincinnatus [Cortland Co., NY], aged 40 years.
