C.  Mead, formerly of Smyrna [Chenango Co., NY], aged 23 years.  In this case death struck a shining mark, one beloved by a large circle of friends.  Although her sun went down at early noon, it was tranquil as departing day, amid the mellow radiance of a summer sunset.

In Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], Nov. 10th, Mr. Edson French, aged 31 years and 9 months.  The deceased was a young man who bore an irreproachable character, always peaceable and obliging in his dealings, upright and honest.  His willingness to assist others drew to him the warmest affection of all who knew him. But thus, by the mysterious visitation of Providence, we bow our sorrowful hearts in humble submission to the Great Dispenser of all events, knowing that "He doeth all things well."

Sad and Fatal Accident:  The Greene American [Chenango Co., NY], states that a fatal accident occurred Monday evening, the 14th inst., on the Indian Brook about three miles southwest of Greene, Leroy Adams, a little boy about nine years old, son of Ezra Adams, left home in the evening to spend an hour or two at Mrs. Wm. C. Dunn's. While there he and Willie Dunn, a boy about eleven years old, played with a rifle, unaware that it was loaded, when by some accident it was suddenly discharged and shot Leroy through the head; the ball entered the base of the skull in front, and came out on the back side of the head, producing death in five or ten minutes.
