Deaths

In McDonough [Chenango Co., NY], on the 27th ult., George A. [Bliven], son of Chas. and Sarah M. Bliven, aged 4 years.

Hon. Addison M. Smith of Morris, Otsego Co. [NY], died at Huntsville, Alabama, October 28th, aged 51 years.  Col Smith at one time represented the counties of Chenango and Otsego in the State Senate.  He was a gentleman of strict integrity and sterling worth and was highly respected by all who knew him.

Edson G. French, a young man some thirty years of age, son of Samue French, of No. Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], met with an accident on Thursday last, which resulted fatally.  He was in the employ of Seth Chapin, in the north east part of this town and while engaged in harnessing a horse, he received a kick, striking him in the bowels, from the effects of which he died on hte following morning.   Union 

On Wednesday night of last week, a canal boat which had been loaded with stone by Beardsley, the quarry man of Oxford broke in twain and sunk.  The hands were sleeping upon the boat and were awakened by the rush of water.  One Mahen was got out just alive and taken to the Petty's Hose, where he soon died. All of the others got out aof the host without injury

A young man by the name of Clark Rhodes, of Binghamton [Broome Co., NY], a driver of a canal boat, was instantly killed in the second lock below this village [Greene, Chenango Co., NY] known as the Birdsall lock, on Sunday last. It appears as the boat was entering the lock, Rhodes left his tea and went back, and from some unknown cause fell in the lock.  He was crushed between  the lock and boat, which caused his instant death.   His body was horribly  mangled. The remains were taken to Binghamton for interment.
