Deaths

Suddenly in North Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], on Sunday morning, the 26th ult. Almira [Cadogan], wife of John Cadogan, aged 46 y'rs, 6 months and 26 days.  In this bereavement, community and the Church of which the deceased was a member, have sustained an irreparable loss, while the poor, the disconsolate and the needy, have been deprived of a valued benefactor and a constant friend.  She was ever feelingly and sensibly alive to the wants and woes of others, and many are the hearts that have been made to "leap with joy" at the munificence of her benefactions.  But upon her numerous and stricken family the blow falls most heavily.  They have met with a loss which can never be made up.  Here she dwelt in the benignity of her best affections - here her fondest hopes centered, and the lasting welfare of her children was a ruling passion of her life.  [Sept. 5, 1849]
