Was the parting very bitter? / Was the hand clasp very tight? / Is a storm of tear drops falling / From a face all sad and white? / Think not of it in the future, / Calmer, fairer days are nigh; / Gaze not backward, but look onward / For a sunny "by and by."
Were some whispered words too cherished? / Was the touch of lips so sweet? / Are two souls once linked together, / Never, never more to meet? / Never here; earth's poor, vain passion, / Slowly moldering out, must die; / But its ashes shall return you / Something purer "by and by."
Was the priceless love you lavished / Sought for, played with, and then slain? / Were its crushed and quiv'ring remnants / Calmly thrown you back again; / Calmly, too, the remnants gather, / Bring them home without a sigh, / Sweet returns they yet shall bring you / In a coming "by and by."

A Youthful Couple: The people of Earlville [Madison Co. NY], have for a few days past enjoyed a sensation, the result of an interesting marriage ceremony which took place in that village on the 8th inst. without the usual preliminary fuss. The blooming bride was the widow of Capt. Nye, who was well known throughout the country as an itinerant peddler. She is 81 years of age, sprightly, and is now happy in the possession of her fifth husband. the lucky groom Hubbard by name, is somewhat his bride's junior, he having but reached the age of 74. Union

Death
In this town [Greene, Chenango Co. NY], on the 18th inst. Reubie J. [Lawnsbury] son of Reuben and Angeline Lawnsbury, aged 11 months and 3 days. Farewell little Reubie; thy troubles are o'er / Thy spirit has heavenward flown, / Thou art safely at rest on yon beautiful shore, / where flowers of love ever bloom.
