BLORE - MERITHEW: At the residence of the bride's parents near Rockdale N.Y. [Chenango Co.], Jan. 2, 1879 by Rev. H.G. Harned, Mr. B.R. Blore of Rockdale, Chenango County and Miss Ernie G. Merithew.
Death
One day last week Cyrus McMaster, an old resident of this place [Afton, Chenango Co. NY], met with an accident which caused his death. He was assisting in removing a hay rigging from a wagon near his barn. He slipped and fell upon the head and shoulders, sustaining injuries resulting as above. The funeral obsequies took pace at his late residence on Tuesday. Deceased was about eighty years of age and owned a fine farm on the river just below town. In his earlier years he dealt quite extensively in lumber, rafting and running it down the river to Philadelphia. In those days he was considered one of the best pilots on the river.
News Item
As is customary, the family gathering at C.B. Barr's at White Store [Chenango Co. NY], was held on Wednesday, Jan. 1st, 1879. Besides the members of the family, there were present Mr. and Mrs. B.D. Evans of North Norwich and Miss Altie Cook of Gilbertsville. The time passed pleasantly and rapidly away, music and singing were enjoyed by all, as was also the bountiful repast, which was duly served and appreciated and judging from appearances as the party returned from the dining room, a happy New Year had in reality commenced.
On an occasion of this kind the mind naturally wanders back over the interval since we last met and the incidents of joy and sorrow follow one another in quick succession, as we crowd three hundred and sixty-five days with their burden of hopes and cares into the space of a few moments. During the year that has passed, two incidents occurred which cannot be dismissed from the mind. One, the marriage of F.J. Barr and Miss Bertha Greene, which occurred last January. While we welcome the addition to our members with fraternal feeling, we are reminded by the absence of one sweet winsome countenance, that little Georgie Curtis has passed from this to a brighter world above and that our broken circle is already united in heaven and one of our number is one of the white robed throng there awaiting us over the river, thus "one by one they are passing over" and we are reminded to lay up our treasure in heaven, that where the treasure is, there the heart may be also.

Birth
Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Scofield, on Pine Hill, were the recipients of a bouncing baby boy on Saturday last. Grandpa Scofield says, as it is the first grandchild that bears his name he feels better about the "word (or name) being forever lost." May the boy grow up in integrity and fidelity and become as accomplished as "Hiram" of old. Hiram is his grandpa's name.
Death
Bennettsville, Chenango Co. NY: The news has reached us of the death of Mrs. John Transue who left this place for Kansas about a year ago.
Biography
Mr. Jeduthun Roe was born at North East, Dutchess County [NY] April 1st, 1787, and is consequently now in the 92d year of his age. He enlisted in the war of 1812, and after his discharge, was married to Miss Jerusia Griffins, February 29, 1815. He remained at North East until about the year of 1846, when he purchased a farm on the north side of the river opposite of this village [Bainbridge, Chenango Co. NY], where he moved his family and remained till 1855. He then sold out to Messrs. Peck & Sornberger and bought a farm on the Unadilla River near East Guilford [Chenango Co. NY], where he remained a few years and again sold out. He now resides with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Augusta Foster, about two miles east of this place. His first wife died December 31st, 1851, and he was again married in 1858. His second wife died some two years ago. In his form and carriage, he is still erect, and one can mark but little change in his outward appearances for the last twenty years. He frequently walks to town in preference to the trouble of driving a horse. He attends to all his own business transactions, in collecting interest and loaning money and is one of the most prompt and exacting of businessmen, and when compared to others in age he has no superior. He is energetic, with a strong and determined will in what he believes to be right. Possessing good morals and habits, his life is an example worthy of limitation, and as a "Landmark" of age and experience, will not be readily forgotten.
