News Item

A horrid murder was perpetrated on a canal boat in West Utica [Oneida Co. NY] last Monday evening.  The victim was named John Long, and the supposed perpetrators are named Carey Couglin and James Welch.  Some difficulty occurred in the cabin of the boat between these men, relative to a woman on board, and afterwards a shuffle ensued on deck in which Long's throat was cut from ear to ear.  the supposed murderers were arrested, and an inquest was held last Thursday.
