Anita Margaret Sejersen was born April 10, 1917, at Richmond Hill, L.I., N.Y. She was the daughter of Jens Andrew Sejersen and Karen Marie Jensen Sejersen. When Anita was a year old, they moved to Bainbridge (Chenango Co., NY). She passed away Sunday afternoon, May 24, of pneumonia and heart trouble after an illness of seven weeks and following a light case of scarlet fever. She was of a bright and cheerful disposition and attracted to herself many friends. Although only fourteen years old, she was a freshman at high school and a favorite with her classmates. The funeral was held from the home of her parents at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, May 27, Rev. Clarence Carman officiating, and her earthly form was laid to rest in Greenlawn cemetery [Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY]. The freshman class of Bainbridge high school attended the funeral in a body and six of her schoolmates, Max Stevens, Junior Roider, Frank Doolittle, Ole Munk, Joseph Ireland and Svend Nyman, acted as bearers. The Girl Scouts, of which she was a member, attended in a body at the grave and acted as an escort. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Besides her parents, Anita is survived by one sister, Edna C. about two years her senior: three younger brothers, Carl, Junior and John. Her aunts and uncles attending the funeral were from Richmond Hill, Brooklyn, Oneonta and Bainbridge. There are also several surviving aunts and uncles in Denmark. [MHD notation: d. 1931]
Mrs. Karen M. (Jensen) Sejersen, 69, passed away May 22 at the Bainbridge Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Harold Sherman Funeral Home, 58 West Main Street, Bainbridge. The Rev. Andrus B. Smith, of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, officiated. Pall bearers were Harold Brandt, Harry Greek, Fred Streigler, and Rexford Thornton, all of Bainbridge. Final resting place is in the family plot in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY]. Mrs. Sejersen was born Jan. 22, 1889, in Ronne, Bornholm, Denmark, daughter of Theodore and Olina (Andersen) Jensen. She came to America in 1906. On June 6, 1914, she married Andrew Sejersen. After marriage they resided in Richmond Hill, L.I., until coming to the Bainbridge area in 1918. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Sejersen, of Bainbridge; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Burke, of Brooklyn; three sons, Carl and Andrew, Jr., both of Bainbridge, and John Sejersen, of Sidney; none grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Camilla Hansen, of Oneonta; two brothers in Denmark and a sister in Sweden; and several nieces and nephews. Friday morning at 12:20 o'clock, occurred the death of Adella L. Seward, wife of Aaron Seward, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Merrill. She was born in Coventry [Chenango Co., NY], April 7, 1859, 82 years ago, the daughter of Adeline (Evans) and John Tracy. She had been ill only a few days and death was due to streptococcic infection of the face. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery, Tuesday, July 22, the William Breese Co. in charge. she had lived in this vicinity for eight years. [MHD notation: July 25, 1941]
The community was shocked and saddened when it became known that Mrs. James Seymour had died suddenly at her home here. Mrs. Seymour had been in failing health for a long time but able to be about and attend church services whenever her health would permit. She was the oldest member of the Congregational Church here, her age being 82. Fifty-four years ago she married James Seymour and had lived in this vicinity ever since. She was a devoted wife, friend and neighbor. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved husband who is left alone. The funeral service was held at Colwell Bros.' Funeral Parlor at Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY]. The pastor, the Rev. William L. Wood, officiated with burial in the family plot at Harpursville [Broome Co., NY]. Communion service will be held here at 2 P.M., Jan. 10th. Missionary meeting will be in the parish house Wednesday, Jan. 6th. [MHD notation: d. 1943]
John Shaffer, 54 years, died Friday morning 11:55 at the Chenango Memorial hospital where he was taken for an operation several days previous. The funeral was held at his late home on Pruyne Hill [Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY] Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. R.R. Whitman officiating. Burial in Coventry cemetery. Mr. Shaffer was an employee of the Casein Mfg. Company. He is survived by his wife and several children.
Gerald N. Shaw, 53 years old, of Afton [Chenango Co., NY], died suddenly Thursday afternoon. He is survived by his widow, Jennie L. Shaw; a daughter, Mrs. Agnes Ryno of Schenectady; a brother, Floyd Shaw of Pottsville, and two sisters. Mrs. Hubert Kimball of Pottsville and Mrs. Herman Brown of Papchoque, L.I. The people of Afton and community were shocked and grieved late Thursday afternoon, March 13th, when news was received of the sudden death of Gerald N. Shaw while transporting children from the Afton Central School to their homes on his bus route. Mr. Shaw was apparently in the best of health when he started from the school and had completed various tasks at his home and the Village Hall where he was employed as janitor in addition to his duties as school bus driver. He had resided near or in Afton village [Chenango Co., NY] for the past 43 years having worked at the M.J. Mudge Food Store, for a time manager of the Grand Union Store and in later years clerked at the Morgan Brothers Hardware Store. He was Superintendent of the Baptist Sunday School for many years and was always interested and active in the better things of the village and community. Born in Parksville, Sullivan County, December 11th, 1885 and at the age of about 12 years came to Afton to reside with his uncle, Peter S. Krum. He was married on September 22nd, 1906 to Jennie L. Pixley, of Triangle, N.Y., and two children were born, a son who died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Ryno, of Schenectady, who with his widow survive him. Also left to mourn his passing are one brother, Floyd Shaw, of Parksville, N.Y., and two sisters, Mrs. Hubert Kimball, of Parkville, and Mrs. Herman Brown, of Patchogue, L.I., and several nephews, nieces and cousins. The love and esteem in which Gerald has held by his many friends and acquaintances was evidenced by the attendance at his funeral and the profusion of beautiful flowers given by both friends and relatives. Prayer service was held at his late home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and funeral services at the Presbyterian church at 2:30. The Lester D. Huxtable of the Union Baptist Church officiated assisted by the Rev. Clifford E. Webb of the Presbyterian church with burial in Glenwood Cemetery [Afton, Chenango Co., NY]
