Marriages (October 27)

The fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Dormer Evans occurred yesterday, July 15 [1908].  Mrs. Evans is recovering from a critical illness and her many friends congratulate her that she has lived to make the fifty years of married life complete, and hope that there are many more years for Mr. and Mrs. Evans to live.

On Monday evening at Afton occurred the marriage of Ida Evelyn Carr, daughter of Mrs. Harriet H. Carr of Afton [Chenango Co., NY] to Mr. R. Clay Wilcox of this village [Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY].  The ceremony was performed at the Methodist parsonage, the Rev. S.J. Smith officiating, the ring service being used.  They were accompanied by Miss Florence Sackett and Harry Carr, brother of the bride.  The bride was gowned in a dark brown traveling suit with hat and gloves to match.  Immediately after the ceremony the bridal couple came to Bainbridge to the home of Mr. Wilcox and on Tuesday morning they were driven to Sidney where they took the morning train for Cranberry lake.  After a short stay there they will go to Montreal and to the Thousand Islands.  The bride is well known in this village for several years occupying a responsible position in the Republican office.  She is an attractive young lady of education and culture, a graduate of the Afton High school and formerly a student at the Oneonta Normal.  During her residence in Bainbridge she made numerous friends and is popular.  the groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Wilcox, is one of Bainbridge's most prominent young men, occupying the position of cashier at the Casein Manufacturing Co.'s plant.  He is also in business with his father in the manufacture of Pepto Chewing Gum, and has a most promising future.  A large circle of friends extend hearty congratulations.  Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox have rented the furnished dwelling of Mrs. Harvey Ireland on West Main street and will be at home to their friends after Sept. 15th.  [about 1908]

Recent news received in Bainbridge state that the marriage of Miss Velma Hill and Dr. John E. Banks occurs at the home of the bride in Rochester Wednesday, July 3 [1907].  both are former residents of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY] where they are well known.  Dr. Banks recently graduated from the Buffalo Dental College and with Dr. John Hill, a brother of Miss Hill, has opened an office in Rochester.

News has been received in Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY] announcing the marriage, on March 7th [1908], of Edward Johnson Lowman, youngest son of Mrs. Fanny Lowman of Sayre, Pa., formerly of Bainbridge, and Miss Alice Willetts of Boonton, N.J.  Mr. Lowman is a practicing lawyer in Elmira.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Smith, of Margaretville [Delaware Co., NY], announce the engagement of their daughter, E. Catherine, to Lt. Frank J. Logwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Logwin, of Kelly Corners.  Miss Smith is a graduate of Margaretville Central School and is employed by the Margaretville Telephone Company.  Lt. Logwin is a graduate of Margaretville High School and is with the Army Air Corps stationed at Maxwell Field, Ala. No date has been set for the wedding. [Bainbridge News & Republican, Jan. 13, 1944]
 
Miss Juanita Johnson, daughter of Mrs. A.S. Benson, of Albany, became the bride of Robert L. Pendlebury, son of  Mrs. Earl Conant, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Sunday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m.  The ceremony took place at the home of the bride's mother and the officiating clergyman was the Rev. Bruce M. Lambert, of Albany.  The attending couple were Mr. and Mrs. Renwick Boggs, of Otego.  The bride was attired in a brown wool, two-piece suit, with brown and white accessories, and a corsage of white roses.  The matron of honor wore an aqua wool dress with brown accessories and wore a corsage of yellow roses   Both Mr. and Mrs. Pendlebury are employed at the Scintilla Magneto, and after a short trip will temporarily reside in Guilford [Chenango Co., NY].  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Jan. 13, 1944]
 
Miss Mary Elizabeth Webster, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L.C. Webster, of Canandaigua, and P.F.C. Donald S. Buell, of the U.S. Army and son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Buell,  of Holcomb, were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Margaretville Friday evening, Jan. 7.  The Rev. Alfred Coons, pastor of the church, performed the ring ceremony.  the bride was graduated from Syracuse University last June and is a teacher of social studies in the Margaretville Central School.  Pvt. Buell, who enlisted in the E.R.C. in October, 1942, was called to service in May, 1943.  He is stationed at Michigan State college, East Lansing, Mich. under the Army specialized training program.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Jan. 20, 1944]
