Alonzo A. Bryant

Norwich [Chenango Co., NY]:  Alonzo A. Bryant, a venerable and respected resident of Norwich, celebrated the 90th anniversary of his birth at his home on Adelaide street last Saturday. The celebration was a very quiet affair, being participated in by a few friends and neighbors besides the immediate family.  Mr Bryant received numerous callers during the day who congratulated him upon the attainment of a ripe old age. The venerable gentleman was visibly affected by the tender greetings of his friends and the several telegrams and tokens that were received.  It was a season of mingled sunshine and rain.

Among the letters of congratulations was a characteristic one from the recipient's son, Dr. Joseph D. Bryant, the well-known and prominent physician of New York, which was accompanied by golden evidence of his filial affection in the shape of $90 in gold coin. Telegrams were received from several distinguished persons, among them the following from ex-president Cleveland, who is a personal friend of Dr. Bryant:

Stuart, Fla., March 29, 1902
A.A. Bryant, Norwich, N.Y.:
Please accept my hearty congratulations with every good wish for your happiness and welfare.
Grover Cleveland

Among other messages received were telegrams from Daniel S. La Mont, former secretary to President Cleveland, and also one from Congressman George W. Ray.  The happy old gentleman was also the recipient of numerous gifts.  Mr. Bryant was born in the adjoining town of North Norwich [Chenango Co., NY] and has resided in the county all of his life, excepting about four years spent in the west. The Globe joins in the congratulations of the citizens of Norwich, who have learned to know Mr. Bryant for his many estimable qualities, and wishes him may happy returns of the day.
