MACK:  In Georgetown [Madison Co. NY] Nov. 9, Florence E. [Mack] only daughter of Orville and Zilpha Mack, aged 11 years, 9 months and 8 days.  In the day when the sun of prosperity seemed shedding its most genial rays upon a happy father and mother, enabling them to provide one of earth's most pleasant homes for their interesting children, the angel of death swooped down and carried away one of their household, leaving them sad and disconsolate.  While sympathizing with the bereaved, we would endeavor to offer a quiet balm to those saddened hearts in the following lines:

No words can tell the anguish / Of these sorrow-stricken breasts, / Those parents and that brother, / As they laid her down to rest.

Other friends gathered around her, / All anxious to save / This darling little Florence / From the cold and silent grave.

But the angels still keep calling / From that delightful shore: / "Come! Come! sweet little Florence / Where death shall be no more."

Reflect, then, gentle mother, / Although sad it's made your home, / Little Florence is now an angel / Beside the Saviour's throne.

Remember that the jewel / Which was given to your trust, / Was returned unto its owner / All free from moth and rust.

When your feet have grown too weary, / Gather on to press earth's way; / Florence, then, will come to guide you /To the land of endless day.

H.C.P.
