Miscellaneous - Francis A. Demeree, Cadet Lieutenant, 1926

Harpursville Boy, A Cadet Lieutenant
Francis A. Demeree Wins Promotion as Reward for
Devotion to Duty - April 3, 1926

Francis Demeree, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gilbert Demeree, of Harpursville [Broome Co., NY], was yesterday promoted to the rank of cadet lieutenant at the Manlius School, near Syracuse.  His promotion came as a reward for his unswerving devotion to duty and obedience to school regulations.  These two qualities alone are responsible for Demeree's rapid rise in the ranks at the well known military preparatory institution.  He entered Manlius in the fall of 1922.  In 1923 he was commissioned corporal in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps unit, and the following year became a sergeant.  During the present year he was one of the highest ranking non-commissioned officers at Manlius.  In the academic and athletic worlds at Manlius Demeree's achievements have been fully as brilliant as his successes in the military world.  He is a wearer of the Manlius academic merit ribbon, given for attaining a specified average for a certain length of time.  He also wears an athletic merit ribbon for his work as manager of the various Manlius sport teams, and is a member of the school honor society, the Order of the Phoenix.  His outstanding work as a manager was done with the school basketball team, which won the Eastern preparatory school championship this season for the third consecutive time.
