Andrews Family Reunion

Andrews Descendants Celebrate Important Family Anniversary
Bainbridge News & Republican, September 1, 1932

On August 27th fifty-six of the descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Andrews met at the home of Miss Essie Andrews on the Afton-Coventry road [Chenango Co., NY], to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Andrews coming home to live on the farm where Miss Essie Andrews now lives.

Homer Anson Andrews and Miss Sylvia Yale were married August 19, 1832.  The farm was nearly covered with forest; they cleared the land and made a home.  Of the family of seven children, two are now surviving, Miss Essie Andrews of Coventry and Mr. Elmon Andrews of Bainbridge.

The last reunion of the Andrews family was held at Wallingford, Conn., in 1860, where 400 of the descendants of John Andrews were present (John Andrews was a Puritan of the Old Church of England, who was one of the first settlers on Plymouth rock).

The large family joined about the dinner table where a wonderful picnic dinner was served.  It's interesting to know that all the table clothes that were used were made by hand from the spinning of the flax to the finished product by Mrs. Homer Andrews.

After dinner Alden Wakeman read from the genealogy of the Andrews of the early pioneer days in the colonial history and of the part the Andrews had in the life of the time.  Homer king gave a vivid description of his visiting the old Andrews homestead in Winter just fifty years ago.  Miss Essie Andrews told of many interesting events that happened many years ago when she was a girl.  Everyone went away with a feeling that their kinsmenship had been drawn much closer by the reunion after many years of separation.  Those present were:
