Marriages (August 31)

Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews and Mr. Frances G. Clock, both of Afton [Chenango Co., NY], were married at the home of Isaac Ellis, Thursday morning last, by Rev. H. Hill.  The newly wedded are now receiving the congratulations of their friends.  [Afton Enterprise, April 29, 1897]
 
Wakeman - Andrews:  On Wednesday evening, Jan. 16, 1901, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Andrews, in the town of Coventry [Chenango Co., NY], Nellie Andrews and Charles Harvey Wakeman were united in marriage.  The room was tastefully decorated with evergreens and potted plants.  Under a beautiful evergreen arch the couple stood while a short but impressive ceremony was pronounced by Rev. G.A. Startwether.  Their congratulations were extended and the company enjoyed a bountiful wedding supper.  Mr. and Mrs. Wakeman left Thursday morning on the train for Binghamton and other places for a short wedding trip. Mrs. Jessica Gibb, of Binghamton, and Ben L. Gibb, of St. Petersburg, Fla., announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Dorothy Frances, to S/Sgt. Robert H. Knowles, U.S. M.C.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Knowles, of Utica [Oneida Co., NY].  Miss Gibb, a graduate of the Binghamton North High School, is an employee fo Western Union.  the prospective bridegroom is at Camp Lejeune, N.C., awaiting discharge.  He has been in the Marine Corps for more than three years, serving part of this time in the Pacific Theatre.  The wedding will take place sometime this month.  [Bainbridge News & Republican, Nov. 8, 1945]
 
Miss Ruth Pearson, a member of Afton School Faculty [Chenango Co., NY], became the bride of Walter Shupe, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shupe of Afton Tuesday October 16th at the home of the bride at Millbrook, N.Y. [Dutchess Co.]  The groom recently returned from U.S. service in the Pacific area.  [Afton Enterprise, Oct. 18, 1945]

Miss Martha Ellett, daughter of Mrs. Mary Ellett, and Louis Mazzarella, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Mazzarella, both of Sidney [Delaware Co., NY], were united in marriage at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, at the Sacred Heart rectory by the Rev. Father John Kavanaugh.  The attendants were Miss Philomena Carrocciola and Sergeant Antoony Donolio of the Army Air Force, also of Sidney.  The bride was attired in pale blue net, with white accessories, and wore a corsage of pink and white carnations; the bridesmaid wore pink net with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations.  Mrs. Ellett, mother of the bride, wore pale pink, and Mrs. Mazzarella, mother of the bridegroom, was attired in blue and white.  A reception and dinner followed the ceremony, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mazzarella, for the members of the immediate families.  The color scheme was red, white and blue, and the bride's table was centered with a three-tiered wedding cake.  Following the reception the couple left for a brief honeymoon to Albany, after which the bridegroom returned to camp at Fort Edwards, Mass., and Mrs. Mazzarella came to the home of her mother in Sidney. AMM 2/c Mazzarella is in the U.S. Navy.  He is a graduate of Sidney Central High school, and Mrs. Mazzarella attended the Walton High school.  [Sidney Enterprise, July 12, 1945]

Sgt. and Mrs. Kendall Hoke were married in Sidney Methodist Church Sunday, July 1.  The bride is the former Miss Norma M. Cooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ray, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr .and Mrs. Earle I. Hoke, all of this place [Sidney, Delaware Co., NY]. Sgt. and Mrs. Hoke are making their home in Romulus, Mich., where he is in the inspection office of the Air Base.  Sgt. Hoke has served in the Army six years.  [Sidney Enterprise, July 12, 1945]
