Deaths

In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], on Thursday morning last, Mr. Josiah S. Miller, aged 37 years.  Mr. Miller was keeper of one of the principal hotels in this village and was one of our most respectable citizens. [Jan. 9, 1833]

At Schuyler, Herkimer Co. [NY], on the 23d ult. Dr. Alfred Ladd, formerly a student of Dr. Henry Mitchell, of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], aged about 28 years.  On the 13th ult. he fell from his hay mow upon the handle of a pitchfork as is supposed, from which time until his death, he suffered the most excruciating pains in consequence of the injury received by the fall.  His remains were taken to the residence of his father, Capt. Samuel Ladd, in Sherburne, in this county [Chenango Co., NY], where the funeral rites were performed on the 26th ult. [Feb. 6, 1833]

In Sidney, Delaware Co. [NY], on the 16th January last, Julia A. Baxter, aged 2 years.  on the 23d of the same month, Charles Augustus Baxter, aged one year; and on the 7th inst. Leaphe Maria Baxter aged near 5 years, all "in one little month" the children and the only children of Mr. Charles A. Baxter. [Feb. 13, 1833]

At Waterville, Maine, on the 14th Jan. ult. Mr. George W. Lincoln, formerly of Sherburne, in this county [Chenango Co., NY], aged 28 years. [Feb. 13, 1833]

In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], on Friday morning last, Miss Delia Guthrie, aged 18 years.  An appropriate sermon was preached on the occasion of her funeral, b the Rev. J.S. Swan from Ecel, chap xi, 1st verse.  Her remains followed by a large concourse of people, were carried to North Norwich and there interred in the Baptist burying ground.  The blow inflicted by this sad event upon her surviving relatives and friends, is one which will long be felt.  The mildness of her manners, the winning sweetness of her deportment and the benevolence of her heart, had justly endeared her to all. And truly was it remarked, over her grave, that her discrimination in selecting her friends, her studious regard for morals, her exemplary walk through life, her love of the house of God, and her sympathy for the sufferings of the unfortunate, rendered her virtues worthy of being recorded, and her life a pattern for imitation. On the 16th inst., an infant child of Mr. Abel Comstock, of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY]. [Feb. 20, 1833]

In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], on Friday morning last, Abial [Cook], youngest son of Abial Cook, esq., aged nearly 2 years. [Mar. 20, 1833]

In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co., NY], Mrs. Rebecca Merritt, mother of Jarvis K. Pike, Esq., aged 70 years. [Mar. 20, 1833].

At Sherburne [Chenango Co., NY], on the 6th inst. Mr. Samuel Stebbins, a soldier of the Revolution, aged 74 years. [Mar. 20, 1833]

In North Norwich [Chenango Co., NY], on Tuesday, the 19th inst., Philip Wiswell, aged 19 years. [Mar. 27, 1833]

In Otselic [Chenango Co., NY], on the 13th inst. Mrs. Huldah Dodge, consort of the late Amos Dodge, of that place, aged 74 years. [Mar. 27, 1833]
