CADWELL - BAKER: On Wednesday last, Doctor Cadwell and Miss Martha Baker were united in the golden bands of matrimony. Their sacred vows were solemnized and legalized by Eld. Stephen Adriance of Beaver Meadow. The parties reside in this town [North Pharsalia, Chenango Co. NY].
Variety Wedding: A pleasant party of some fifty relatives and friends assembled at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Huntington on Friday afternoon last, to take part in properly observing the thirtieth anniversary of their marriage. Rev. L.M.S. Haynes made some remarks appropriate to the occasion and the afternoon was most pleasantly passed in social converse. The happy couple were the recipients of many valuable presents. Among friends present from abroad were Rev. J.G. Willis and wife, of Vermont; Lucius E. Brooks, wife, son and daughter of McGrawville; C.A. Robinson and wife, of Walton; H.D. Hollister and wife of DeRuyter.

GEER: In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 19th, Henry C. [Geer] son of Nelson P. Geer, aged 16 years, 11 months and 24 days.
PHILLIPS: In Guilford [Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 20th, Mr. Asaph Phillips, aged 82 years, father of Mrs. Sylvanus Shumway of this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY].
HERRICK: In East Pharsalia [Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 11th, Melinda [Herrick], relict of the late Dea. Jonas Herrick, in the 80th year of her age.
STEVENS: In Afton [Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 11th, Mrs. Clara Stevens aged 84 years.
KING: In McClure Settlement [Broome Co. NY], Nov. 9th, Mrs. Velma King, aged 53 years.
JACOX: At the residence of her son, at Johnson's Creek, Niagara Co. N.Y. Nov. 15th, Mrs. James Jacox, aged 73 years, formerly of New Berlin, N.Y. [Chenango Co.].
SHEPARDSON: In Smyrna [Chenango Co. NY] Nov. 14th, Mrs. Hannah Shepardson, aged 72 years, 9 months and 9 days mother of County Clerk Shepardson. Deceased was born in Barkhamsted, Ct., in 1805, and came to Smyrna with her father's family (John Munson) in 1808 and since that time has been a resident of the town. She was always held in high esteem by those who knew her.
PABODIE: The remains of a child of Henry Pabodie which died some years since in the southwest were received by express from St. Louis a few days ago and interred in the family lot of its grandfather, Fred Woiler in the village cemetery.
SCOTT: In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 17th, Mr. Asa S. Scott, aged 73 years.
Another of our old and respected citizens has passed to his rest. Asa S. Scott died at his residence on West Main Street on Saturday morning last in the seventy-third year of his age. Deceased was born in Schoharie [Schoharie Co., NY] and when three years old, his father, the late Daniel Scott, removed with his family to Plymouth [Chenango Co. NY], where Asa grew up to manhood. Some thirty years ago he removed to a farm in Preston [Chenango Co. NY], where he remained until 1870, when he retired from active life, and came to this village to pass the remainder of his days. Mr. Scott was quiet and unassuming in his manner, upright in his dealing and enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. For many years he was an esteemed member of the Methodist church. His disease which was of a most painful nature he has endured with fortitude for years, but it was not until last spring that it assumed an alarming form and for the past few months his sufferings have been intense. He leaves a wife and one son, Fred. Scott, surviving him. His funeral was largely attended on Monday and the services were appropriately conducted by Rev. H.M. Crydenwise.

Ancient Tombstones
Mr. Editor: In looking among the old tombstones which mark the graves of the early settlers in our village cemetery, one finds many quaint inscriptions. But what will perhaps surprise many of our readers is the extreme old age attained by some who now lie moldering in neglected graves.
On the first marble slab erected in the old burying ground in the village of Norwich [Chenango Co. NY] we read as follows:
"In memory of Dr. Joseph Brooks, who died March the 10, 1813, aged 111 years. In him society lost one of its best members"
This slab was from friends in Albany as a token of their friendship for him in life. Look at it, after having stood sixty-four years.
On a native stone in the same ground is the record of the oldest unmarried lady who has ever died in the village of Norwich, as I remember:
"In memory of Miss Esther (Allexander) Gillmore, who died Jan'y 17, 1831, in the 107 year of her age"
Who remembers Esther?
