Golden Wedding:  A pleasant social event came off at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Lewis, of Coventry [Chenango Co. NY], on the afternoon and evening of Thanksgiving.  Some fifty of their friends and neighbors joined them in celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage which took place at Farmington, Conn., Thanksgiving Day, 1827.

In the center of the room occupied by the guests stood a small maple stand, which occupied a similar position fifty years ago - a silent witness of the plighted faith of the youthful pair.  Four tallow candles on this stand duplicated the "light of other days," and awakened in the minds of many present interesting and pleasant memories of "ye olden time."

The host and hostess of this occasion are worthy examples of the value of industrious and temperate habits.  Mr. L. is still able to follow his trade - a house carpenter - and do six days work every week, to the satisfaction of his employers.

We observed numerous tokens of regard in the way of gifts from the family friends, prominent among which was a gold-headed cane presented by a daughter, Mrs. L.A. Lewis, of Norwich - an appropriate gift form a child to a parent at a Golden Wedding.

At a seasonable hour the guests, after having given positive proof of their appreciation of the hospitality of their hosts, retired, hoping that the evening of their life may be as peaceful and calm, as the morning was hopeful and promising.
