To Mr. and Mrs. Young

You are lonely in yon valley/ Where the twilight shadows lie, / Where the winds are moaning, moaning, / And the dead seem ever nigh, / There we laid your little Robbie, / Laid him down to dreamless rest, / There the damp, cold clods are lying / On your darling's gentle breast.

You are lonely in the wide world / None are left you hold so dear; / Friends may check your tones of sorrow, / Friends may wipe the starting tear; / You may love them for their kindness, / Bless them for their gentle care, / But your hearts look ever upward / To the skies - for he is there.

Yet, though life be long and lonely, / And the parent love be strong, / You would not call your darling / From the world of love and song, / For you know he walks with angels / In the loving smile of God / And bow yourselves submissive / To the chastening of His rod.

Darling Robbie! be thou near us / While we tread this toilsome way; / Guard us by thine angel presence, / Lest our tired feet may stray; / And when lone and sad and weary / Hearts and hopes alike are dead, / Bless us, oh thou dearly loved one, / Comfort us till life hath fled.

God in Heaven Thou watchest o'er us, / Thou our surest stay must be; / Teach us early these sweet lessons / Patience, Hope and Purity, / That when Thou at last shall call us / To the vale where shadows lie, / We may gladly hear the summons / And be with him in the sky.

News Item

Disappeared:   On Monday night, May 31st during the very severe rainstorm of that night, Miss Mianda Winton, who has been crazy for some three years, made her escape from the house of her brother, John L. Winton, in this village [Morris, Otsego Co. NY] through a window, and search for her has as yet proved fruitless.  The ponds and streams and woods in this vicinity have been searched in vain. When she left the house, she took no bonnet or shawl, had on only a dress and scanty underclothing and a pair of slippers on her feet.  It is generally thought that she has wandered off and put an end to her life, but where no one can find out.  She has several times attempted suicide.  She may be living, if so, she is wandering about in a very distressed condition, and it is no wonder her brother and friends feel most deeply grieved in consequence of her escape.  Miss Winton was formerly one of the most successful schoolteachers in this section and stood high in the esteem of everyone.   [She was possessed of] more than ordinary talent.  She was about 52 years of age.  Any information in regard to the lost one will be thankfully received by her friends.

The deceased was engaged during the vigorous portion of his life in farming and lumbering.  For thirty-five consecutive years he piloted rafts down the Susquehanna River.  He had been a Democrat until the organization of the Republican party in 1856, since which time he had been much devoted to the latter, although never seeking or holding any public position.  He was a quiet, unobtrusive, friendly gentleman and possessed elements of candor and general character that made him much respected.  He leaves five children:  L.L. Bundy, Esq., of Oneonta; W.D. Bundy, of Auburn; Mrs. Olive Stewart, of Morris; Lorissa Jenks and Abigail Culver of Oneonta.  His remains were deposited in the cemetery at Otsdawa [Otsego Co.
