Marriages

RICHARDSON - TUTTLE:  In Georgetown [Madison Co. NY], Nov. 7, 1877, by Rev. J.W. Barr.  Mr. Welcome Richardson and Mrs. Electa A Tuttle, both of Georgetown.

JONES - PERRY:  At the residence of the bridegroom on the 10th last.  Rev. A.B. Jones of East Pharsalia [Chenango  Co. NY] and Mrs. Perry.

East Pharsalia, Chenango Co. NY:  A.B. Jones, aged about 80 years was married to a Mrs. Perry, of about the same age, a few days since.  The youthful couple settled right down to housekeeping.

Deaths

HERRICK:  At East Pharsalia [Chenango Co. NY], on Sunday evening the 11th inst., Melinda [Herrick], relict of the late Deacon Jones Herrick, in the 80th year of her age.

Mrs. Malinda Herrick, an aged resident of this place [East Pharsalia], was stricken with paralysis the 2nd of November.  After 10 days of painful suffering, she departed this world to realize the hopes she had long entertained of the blessedness beyond.

ELY:  Mrs. Elizabeth Birdsall Ely, who died at New Berlin [Chenango Co. NY] on the 5th inst. was a granddaughter of Col. Birdsall of Revolutionary fame and sister of Maj. Benjamin Birdsall, who was shot at Albany in 1818.  Her husband the late Hon. Noah Ely, was at one time a very prominent citizen of this county and was a member of the Assembly in 1832.

CHAMBERLAIN:  Holmesville, Chenango Co. NY:  Mrs. Eliza Chamberlain died suddenly of heart disease Sunday night.  She retired well as usual.  Near midnight she grew restless, was coughing some and the Elder gave her some medicine.  She expressed a wish that someone else was with her.  As the Elder left her to call a woman in the house, he noticed she moved slightly and threw back her head.  In this position he found her a few seconds later.  She did not breath again.  A crowded Church at the funeral on Wednesday told of respect for the departed one and great sympathy for Elder Chamberlain in his bereavement.

Chenango Semi-Weekly Telegraph, Norwich, NY, Nov. 24, 1877:  The many friends of Rev. J. Chamberlain sympathize deeply with him in his sad bereavement by the death of his estimable wife.  For nearly sixty years he has been associated with the history of our beautiful valley.  He has officiated at numberless weddings and buried hundreds in our cemeteries, in hope of a glorious resurrection.  Years ago, he followed the wife of his youth to the city of the dead, and both his daughters have found the same hallowed resting place.  Now, when he has passed the threescore and ten years to which so few attain, he is called to lay aside his last earthly prop and is left alone.  May God, whom he has served so long and faithfully, sustain him.

BABCOCK - WHITNEY:  At the residence of the bride's father, Mr. Elezer Whitney of Nelson, Madison Co. [NY], Nov. 19th, by Rev. Horatio Yates, Mr. Hobart C. Babcock of South New Berlin [Chenango Co. NY] to Miss Laura A. Whitney of Nelson.

DALRYMPLE - BROWN:  At the residence of Mr. Charles Steward in Plymouth, N.Y. [Chenango Co.], November 22nd, by Rev. J.H. Barnard, Mr. Henry S. Dalrymple and Miss Mary F. Brown, both of the above named place.

WANDS - TABER:  In Plymouth [Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 20 by the Rev. M.L. Rugg, Gloud D. Wands of Collamer [Onondaga Co. NY] to Rosa Tabor of Plymouth.

ANDERSON - STEBBINS:  The last wedding at the Baptist Church at Mt. Upton [Chenango Co. NY] Nov. 8th, was the signal for a small deluge.  May the blessings which shall descend upon the happy pair, H. Anderson Esq., and Miss Louella Stebbins, be as abundant as the showers upon their bridal night.

Oxford Times, Oxford, NY, November 21, 1877:  In Mt. Upton [Chenango Co. NY] by Rev. L.B. Yale, Mr. Homer J. Anderson of Guilford [Chenango Co. NY] to Miss Louella D. Stebbins of Unadilla [Otsego Co. NY].

Deaths

BROWNELL:  In Madison, N.Y. [Madison Co.], Nov. 3rd of heart disease, Frances P. Brownell, aged 78 years, 2 months and 28 days.  Her remains were brought to the home where the greater part of her life was spent and interred beside those of her husband, Dr. J. Guernsey, at Evergreen Cemetery, White Store [Chenango Co., NY].

HOLDRIDGE:  In this village [Norwich, Chenango Co. NY], Nov. 23rd, May [Holdridge] only child of Richard and Betsy E. Holdridge, aged 9 years 11 months 23 days.  Funeral services will be held at the residence of the family on Cortland St. Sunday at 2 P.M.

TUTTLE:  In Smyrna [Chenango Co. NY], November 21st, Mr. Cleveland Tuttle aged 19 years.

At the residence of the bride's parents, Nov. 14th, by Rev C.E. Taylor, Mr. Martin A. Fuller of Barker [Broome Co. NY] to Miss Mary A. Jackson of Whitney's Point [Broome Co. NY].

Death

Last Sunday, while some boys were playing on Pine Creek, near Walton [Delaware Co. NY], a pistol was accidentally discharged and one of them named Eaton was shot through the bowels.  He lived about ten minutes.
