In Portlandville [Otsego Co. NY], Jan. 24th, Morey Smith in the 78th year of his age.  He died in perfect peace, beloved and honored by all.

In Otego [Otsego Co. NY] on the 16th of Jan. after a long and painful illness. Mrs. Polly [Couse] wife of Wm. Couse aged 60 years 3 months and 7 days.

In Unadilla [Otsego Co. NY] on the 23d ult Mrs. Sarah Page wife of the late Henry Page in the 59th year of her age.

Deaths

At her residence in Harpersfield [Delaware Co. NY] of inflammation of the lungs, Mary [Rickey] wife of Thomas Rickey in the 57th year of her age.

In the life and death of the deceased, we behold one of the most striking examples of Christian devotion illustrated in the character of the model wife, devoted and self-sacrificing mother. Such is the end of earth, but not so with all.  Hers was a home of blessed immortality in that home whither we trust she has gone.

On the 29th ult. while Mr. William Saunders of Meredith [Delaware Co. NY] was at work on the drum of a turning lathe, which was revolving at a rapid rate, his chisel took too rank a hold, was wrenched from his hands and at the same time tearing off a heavy piece of oak plank. Either the peace of plank or the chisel struck him on the head, breaking his skull and making a frightful wound, form which the brains protruded.  He died on Friday the 4th inst., leaving a wife and several children.  Mr. S. was about 50 years of age and much respected where he was known.

CRONKITE:  In Portlandville [Otsego Co. NY] April 6, Mrs. Caroline Cronkite in the 67th years.

WETMORE:  In Butternuts [Otsego Co. NY] April 1st, Mrs. Ann Wetmore aged 82 years.

BUTLER:  In Middlefield Centre [Otsego Co. NY] April 4th, Mrs. Clarenda Butler in her 74th year.

HALL:  In Pittsfield [Otsego Co. NY] April 7th, Lyman P. Hall, aged 68 years and 9 months.

GILLETT:  In New Lisbon [Otsego Co. NY] April 8th, Infant son [Gillett] of Lee and Matilda Gillett.
