Marriage

A large party attended the wedding of Miss Beagle and Mr. Rogers Wednesday evening.  The bride is an estimable young lady and has many friends at the Forks and elsewhere.  Mr. Rogers is well known in railroad circles for a conscientious and upright employee.  Not only was a large number present from the immediate vicinity but many from Binghamton attended, among them being alderman Darrow. The presents were numerous and appropriate, the most noticeable being a $50 bill given by grandfather and grandmother English. A splendid collation was served.  Binghamton Leader

Death

HOYT:  In Coventry [Chenango Co. NY] on Sunday, May 11, 1879, in her 86th year, Mrs. Hannah Hoyt widow of the late Thadeus Hoyt.  For a long time she had been in feeble health, but at last dropped away very suddenly and peacefully and entered into rest.

THOMPSON:  On the 3d inst. Edward Thompson, aged 17 years, of Fly Creek [Otsego Co. NY] was thrown from a load of hop poles against a stone wall, breaking his back.  the accident was caused by the poles sliding forward on the wagon, striking the horses and frightening them.  On Saturday morning, one week from the date of the injury he died.  He was a son of Lee(?) Thompson.

WILCOX:  Charles Wilcox aged 33 and single, brother to Frank Wilcox, harness maker, and Duane Wilcox, carriage manufacturer, of Unadilla Forks [Otsego Co. NY], left that place April 25th for Bradford, Pa., where he had formerly worked, with $70 in his possession.  On the 5th inst., a telegram to his relatives here announced his sudden death, with no particulars.  His remains arrived on the 7th, per express, accompanied by a box containing the clothing he wore at his death.  The money belt he usually wore next to his body, bore evidence of having been torn and cut into by a knife, which led to the supposition that he had been murdered for his money.  a letter form Bradford, Pa. received since his burial, leaves the affair still shrouded in mystery. The letter states "He left Bradford within a few days of his arrival, without any money, for Limestone, Pa., where he was found drowned.  He being an entire stranger without money, friends, or even acquaintances, it is supposed he wandered off in a fit of despondency and deliberately committed suicide."  Further than the above, all is conjecture.  Cooperstown Rep.

Birth

Instead of a sermon at the church last Sunday evening, the pastor, Rev. James Ryder, was detained at his home and will no doubt furnish his congregation a sermon next Sabbath from the words, "Unto us a child is given, unto us a child is born."  We congratulate the parson and his estimable lady on their ten pound boy and hope the little one may live to see many returns of his birthday.  Dr Wilsey was their physician and the Elder speaks in the highest terms of his skill.

Marriage

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Bradbury of Guilford [Chenango Co. NY] assembled on Saturday evening, to celebrate their silver wedding.  The large and pleasant home was thronged by a merry company, among whom was Mr. Bennett Morse of New Haven, a brother of Mrs. Bradbury, and several others from abroad.

To the courtesy of Charles Waters, our obliging operator, we are indebted for a copy of a dispatch received this (Wednesday) morning, announcing the death by drowning of Mrs. Abel Seeley who resides in the east part of the town of Smithville [Chenango Co.
