Col. Ezra Hewitt of Norwich [Chenango Co. NY] died on the 28th ult. aged 84 years. the writer has reasons for remembering Mr. Hewitt which he will never forget. And scores of other young men have profited by his fatherly advice and suggestions. Mrs. Hewitt, one of the noblest women we ever knew, survives, only to mourn the death of her husband and son, William S. Hewitt a very promising young gentleman who died about one year ago.
Saturday afternoon Eddie Morgan about 18 years old, youngest son of S.L. Morgan, of New Berlin [Chenango Co. NY] was drowned in the Unadilla River while gathering white water lilies. He sleeps with the flowers he so dearly purchased.
George Griflin a D.&H. brakeman and formerly a Midland conductor, fell from a car at Fort Edward [Washington Co. NY] on the 27th and was run over, dying the next day.

In Waverly, Tioga Co. N.Y. on the 16th inst. Abigail [Persons] widow of the late William Persons, in the 83d year of her age. Mrs. P. was formerly a resident of this village [Cooperstown, Otsego Co. NY]. Her remains were brought here and interred in Lakewood Cemetery.
In Oneonta [Otsego Co. NY] July 8 of cancer, George Poole aged 40 years.
In Richfield [Otsego Co. NY] July 9, Cornelia [Myers] wife of Mathias F. Myers, aged 78 years.

Fantastic! I find it fascinating that the ages of the deceased are so much higher when compared to numbers from even thirty years before. It's a testament to the power of progress and industrialization!
