Miss Evalena Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moore, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY], was united in marriage to Staff Sergeant George J . Mennie, of Fort Hancock, N.J., son of Alexander Mennie, of Bronx, N.Y., on Saturday, Aug. 12, 1942, at 5:30 P.M. The ceremony took place in the Community Church at Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Carl S. Weist, pastor of the Community Church, officiating. Wedding music was furnished by Miss Madeline Blenus, and William Gebberth, who sang "Because." The altar of the church was beautifully decorated with white zinnias and green foliage. The young couple was attended by Miss Anna Monaham, of Bronx; and Leroy Stiller, of Mt. Vernon. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Henry Moore, of Orange, N.J., wore a suit of aqua-marine with contrasting accessories, and carried a bouquet of white gladioli. The maid of honor wore a pale green suit and carried lavender gladioli. Guests attending the wedding from out-of-town were Mrs. Henry Moore, mother of the bride; Miss Lillian Moore, sister of the bride; and Miss Georgiana Hovey, all of Bainbridge. Sgt. and Mr. George Mennie, after a short honeymoon, are residing at 121 Claremont avenue, Mt. Vernon. St. John's Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding Saturday morning at 9 o'clock on Sept. 12, when Miss Ruth Barnard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Barnard, of Afton [Chenango Co., NY], became the bride of Francis Gunther son of Mrs. Mary Gunther, and the late Joseph Gunther, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY]. The Rev. John J. Toomey officiated at the service and celebrated the nuptial mass. Mrs. Earl Leonard was at the organ and Mrs. Martin sang. The bride wore a gown of white slipper satin with a fitted bodice, long fitted sleeves and a yoke of embroidered lace. Her full skirt extended into a long oval train. The finger tip illusion veil gathered with a crown of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of white roses and baby's breath. The bridesmaid, Miss Marian Barnard, sister of the bride, wore a floor length gown of pink chiffon with matching crown of pink roses and carried a bouquet of pink roses. Guy Leonard, a friend of the groom, was best man. Mrs. Barnard the bride's mother, wore black and white and had a corsage of Talisman roses. Mrs. Gunther wore navy and white with a corsage of Talisman roses. A reception at the Central Hotel included members of the immediate families. The News was notified this week of the announcement of the engagement of Miss Margaret MacNellar, of Charlottesville, Va., to Lieutenant Francis Shields Woods of Albany. Miss MacNellar is a descendant of Rebecca Burwell (the famous Belinda) who chose young Ambler of Williamsburg as a husband instead of Thomas Jefferson. The marriage will take place in the College chapel at Charlottesville at an early date. Lt. Woods won a silver star for bravery in action at Pearl Harbor and is a graduate of the University of Virginia. He is a cousin of William Shields Myers, of Bainbridge [Chenango Co., NY].
