Farewell, dear boy, thy toils are o'er, / Thy transient life is sped; / We'll see thy face on earth no more, / Thou sleep'st among the dead.
No more thy prattling voice we'll hear, / In childish mirth and glee; / But o'er thy grave we'll drop a tear / In sacred memory
No more we'll see those sparkling eyes, / That shone so bright and clear; / Until we meet thee in the skies, / Where naught can cause a tear
No more can sickness, pain or grief / Thy tender form come o'er, / From sorrow, too, thou find'st relief / Upon that blissful shore.
We would not call thy spirit back, / Where life our joys impair, / Thy short-lived path again to track / For thou art happy there.
Then fare three well till we shall meet, / Where parting ne'er will come; / Thy happy spirit then we'll greet / In that eternal home

Dearest Mason, thou hast left us / Thy sweet voice no more we'll hear / Still we listen for thy footsteps / Still we think that thou art near.
In his home sad hearts are bleeding, / And they miss his loving tone; / He, the second loved, and dearest / Far away to heaven has flown.
When the August flowers had faded / And the trees begun to sear / Then they called our darling Mason / to a fairer, brighter sphere
He has gone to sing with angels, / In that happy, happy land, / Where a choir of infant singers / Praise the Lord--a holy band.
Cease, fond parents, cease thy weeping! / He no more will need they care, / For his loving Savior called him, / And you may his glory share.
E.C. Spencer
