Sherburne News, September 7, 1865
With sincere sorrow we record the death of Myron Warner, the son of Hiram Warner, of this town [Sherburne, Chenango Co. NY], who died at the residence of his father, on Wednesday of last week, after an illness of three or four months, at the age of 25 years. No young man among us had a better title to, or more completely enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. His fidelity to the interests of his employer, Mr. S.L. Starr, with whom he had been for three years or more, previous to his illness, his mechanical ingenuity, industry, sobriety, downright sincerity and honesty were subjects of common observation; and the feeling of regret for his death and sympathy with the bereaved friends is universal. Such qualities as he possessed would have become a more ambitious position in life; but he will be none the less lamented for his modest pretentions and genuine simplicity of character. The Sherburne Fire Co. of which he was a faithful member, attended his funeral in a body. M.
Hardly had the grave closed over the remains of young Warner, when the sad tidings spread through our village that Frederic Ames, who had been suffering from a painful illness of two or three weeks, had expired at the residence of his father-in-law, Mr. Albert Lobdell. This event, though not unexpected, produced an unusual sensation. He was but 27 years old, recently married, had been but a few months established in business, and enjoyed, in an eminent degree, the confidence and esteem of our citizens. In the Autumn of 1861, he enlisted in the 61st Reg. N.Y.S.V. He was a faithful soldier until, on account of wounds received at the battle of Fair Oaks and disease contracted in the service, he was honorably discharged. Previous to his enlistment he was, for two years or more, in the employ of S.L. Starr in this village. After his return from the army he established himself in the tin and sheet iron business with every prospect of permanent success. "Man proposes, but God disposes." He will be missed from a large circle of friends and from the business of the village. His death occurred on Friday last and his funeral was very largely attended on Sunday at the Episcopal church. The relatives and friends of the deceased have the unqualified sympathy of our entire community.

The funeral services of the lamented Charles Smith, who died in the Service of his country of Dyptheria, in the Hospital at New Orleans, was attended last Sabbath forenoon in the Congregational Church of this village [Sherburne, Chenango co., NY]. A very appropriate Sermon was delivered by the Rev. Mr. Brownson of the Baptist Church. The illness of the Pastor, Rev. E. Curtis, prevented his fulfilling this engagement which he had previously announced.
