Death
Died at Sharon, Schoharie Co. [NY] on the 28th December by consumption, Mary Anne [Finnegan] daughter of the Rev. John Finnegan, aged 25. Long and patiently did she submit to the insidious attack of this obstinate and uncompromising foe of the fairer portion of the human race. For several months she was aware that death's cold chill was gradually approximating the beginning and the end of spirit. Not a murmur - Not a sigh escaped this pious and Christian young lady even at the last moments while her friends surrounding her gazed on her pallid countenance intently as if to see the flight of a reconciled - a redeemed soul. In this sad hour we see the noble and exalted feeling of Christian faith and resignation in death rising far above the hopes, the fears, the doubts and tremblings of thoughtless mortals. For she heeded not the sympathetic tear, nor the repeated farewell! and again farewell! When even she could not utter the faintest whisper upon being requested she raised her hand in evidence of God's goodness and mercy in the last trying hour. A father, mother and sister are bereft of one that was very near and dear to them. Her place shall know her no more. Society has lost an amiable and interesting lady, whose exemplary life endeared her to all.
