Death
On Tuesday morning, Dec. 18 at Granville, New Jersey, Laura [Evans] wife of George H. Evans, aged 38.
When most of the matter for this paper was in type, all our household were called to the mournful duties rendered necessary by the melancholy and unexpected event above announced. She had not for a long time enjoyed good health, but such a sudden and fatal termination of her sickness was quite unexpected. She submitted without murmuring to many privations for the sake of the cause in which I have felt it my duty to be engaged for more than twenty years. Words are unnecessary to elicit the sympathy of friends for the loss of such a partner for so long a distance in the journey of life. The decaying foliage of the homestead burying ground, in which she now lies, is emblematic of the sorrow caused in our family circle by this bereavement. The new leaves and flowers of spring will call to fresh duties and bespeak the inutility of useless regrets, Young America, Dec. 22.

A Tin Wedding
One of the most agreeable and interesting social gatherings it has been my privilege to attend in a long time was held at the home of Demott E. Pope, in Columbus [Chenango Co. NY], on the evening of the 24th ult., in the order of a surprise party, it being the tenth anniversary of married life of Mr. and Mrs. Pope, she being the daughter of E.S. Dart, Esq. of this town. Early in the evening the relatives and friends commenced to gather until some forty pleasant and familiar countenances met with mutual greetings. After the party had all arrived, there was reading of the scriptures and prayer offered to the Supreme ruler of the universe for his blessing upon the especial parties of the occasion and the friends in general, by S. Hoxey, from Whitetown, Oneida County, N.Y. Soon after, refreshments were announced and a feast of such things as those ladies know how to prepare - enough to water the mouth of any epicure.
Suffice it to say ample justice was done to the partaken, if not to the partakers. When the free and friendly interchange of thought and views was enough to cause one to forget the flight of time until the last hour of the day, and the party prepared to take their leave, each feeling their social natures improved and resolving in their own mind that such occasions should be more frequent in the future. The presents were both ornamental and useful and will be kept in grateful remembrance of both the givers and the occasion.

RAYMOND: In this village [Sherburne, Chenango Co. NY] Feb. 26, 1879, Mrs. Nancy Purdy wife of Alfred Raymond, Esq. aged 77 years, 11 months.
We are pained to announce the decease of Mrs. Alfred Raymond, which occurred quite suddenly at an early hour on Wednesday corning last.
Mrs. Raymond was the widow of the late Stephen Purdy and married Mr. Alfred Raymond, who survives her, in 1850. She had been a member of the Baptist church for about thirty years and was held in high estimation by all classes for her devoted piety and consistent Christian character. She was the mother of Edward Purdy, Mrs. Juliet Pollock, Mrs. SW. Lobdell and Mrs. M.D. Raymond, who survive her and Lewis Purdy, deceased. To the children of Mr. R. to whom she became a stepmother, she became especially endeared by the affectionate interest she took in their welfare, and they mourn her loss as a mother indeed. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock this (Saturday) forenoon.
