Vital Records, Delaware County, NY (1832)

Delaware Gazette, Delhi, NY, January 4, 1832

Marriage

In this town [Delhi, Delaware Co. NY] on Monday last, by the Rev. Mr. Fisher, Mr. Demas Goff of Meredith [Delaware Co. NY] to Miss Adaline Dean daughter of Mr. William Dean of the former place.

Deaths

In Stamford [Delaware Co. NY] on the 31st ult. Mrs. Margarette Burroughs, aged 48 years, consort of Mr. Daniel Burroughs, and on the 1st inst. Ellen Burroughs aged 19 years, daughter of Mr. Daniel Burroughs.  Thus, within 24 hours, was Mr. Burroughs bereaved of a beloved wife and a dutiful and affectionate child, and society of two shining ornaments, but with the heart-cheering consolation that what is our lot is their gain, as they both gave undoubted evidence that they have an interest in Christ and an inheritance beyond this vale of tears. The large concourse of friends and the deep solemnity which pervaded every mind whilst an affecting address was delivered by Mr. Dennison, manifested that they were beloved by all who knew them, and as they were both interred in one grave, it seemed to speak loud to all, unto you, O man, I call and my voice is unto the children of men.

In Olean, Cattaraugus County [NY] on the 4th ult., of consumption, Mr. Thomas Edgerton formerly of Franklin in this county [Delaware Co. NY] aged abiyt 42 tears,

In Bovina [Delaware Co. NY], on the 15th, inst., Mrs. McFarland a native of Ireland, aged one hundred and ten years.

From the Wayne (Pa.) Enquirer:  With feelings of unfeigned regret, we record the decease of our estimable fellow citizen, Solomon Moore, Esquire. After enduring with characteristic firmness, the pangs of an afflicting illness for nearly two months, yesterday afternoon, in the 49th year of his age, he ceased to breathe, calmly and tranquilly yielding his spirit to the disposal of his maker. Few men have passed through life, leaving a reputation less sullied by human frailties than Solomon Moore.  In his respective official stations, he uniformly evinced a correctness of attention to the interests under his charge, rarely to be found.  His acts, open to public scrutiny, present his proudest testimonial of his worth and integrity.  In private life, his character as a kind and affectionate husband and father - as a valuable friends and neighbor - are too well known and appreciated to require the aid of eulogy. The number of his friends was circumscribed by his acquaintance - his enemy did not exist. Deeply as his loss may be felt in his official relations to his fellow citizens, it is diminutive compared with the bereavement sustained in the circle of his endearing private attachments. There it is irreparable, but whilst we condole with his relatives and friends, we cannot but think it a heart-cheering reflection that with universal accord, the expressive words, "an honest man is the noblest work of God" may be truly applied to expires the general sentiment of honor and respect for the memory of Solomon Moore.

To many it will be interesting to know that in his illness he manifested an unreserved acquiescence and submission to the will of heaven and that he enjoyed the high consolations which the religion of the Bible significantly affords.
